haha...sam! so haf u found ur above average jane? haha...sounds like great news! must share...=P
anyway, yep, i've been to the nanjing massacre war memorial... it's a very meaningful place to visit... you must be mentally prepared to walk out with a heavy heart though... a really solemn place... in case the rest of you dont know what the place is like, it's basically a memorial with lots of photographs, newspaper clippings, video clips, etc. related to the nanjing massacre committed by the japanese during WWII. i got especially emotional after watching the video clips of interviews with the ex-comfort women, the recounts of pregnant women being brutally raped & killed, as well as girls as young as 7 being ruthlessly targeted... sigh... a horrifying history indeed... i left the place with one thought in my head - "the japanese army then was made up of a bunch of vicious & inhumane monsters..."
but that being said, i'm still not anti-japanese... haha... well, you guys should know how pro-jap i am... those atrocities were committed by the japanese in the past, not the japanese of the present... so let's not blame today's generation of japanese for the inhumane acts of their forefathers... =)
anyway, as for food... nanjing has quite a lot of good food if you know where to find them... but if you're talking about the daily average fare, then it's not that great actually... the food here tends to be very salty and oily... i can totally feel my arteries getting clogged with each spoonful of whatever i eat here... >_<
